Problems With Weight.

Question Posted Friday December 18 2009, 5:34 pm

My Friend Has A Huge Problem With weight, She Is Fifteen Years Old And A Sophmore in High School Just Like me. I Weight 125 Pounds. I Feel Bad Every Time I Step On The Scale in front of her, Because She Cries After. She Weighs 170 Pounds. Is There Anything I Can Do As A Friend To Help Her Out So She Wont Feel As Bad.

Thanks.
-Cassidy xoxo

solidadvice4teens answered Friday December 18 2009, 10:20 pm:
Healthy weight is determined by height and sex. I can't tell you if she's overweight or if she just believes she is without her height. I can then get a Body Mass Index chart up.

If she is overweight she needs to see her doctor about it. This professional will give her a nutrition plan or refer her to a dietitian who can show her how, what, when to eat to lose weight safely.

The thing is you may be a very healthy 125 lbs if you're at the right height or an underweight 125 if you aren't. It's all about height. If 170 is over what her BMI should be than she needs a doctor.

It sounds like she may also need psychological counseling to deal with how she feels about herself and what her weight issues are doing to her mentally. She should not be so torn up. Also, take this as a lesson not to step on a scale in front of her in the future. Be supportive but suggest she talk to a doctor if she wants to change this aspect.
