I've always had very strange dreams, but lately it's getting to be too much. I have nightmares quite often and I wake up in the middle of the night feeling terrified. I'm a really happy person so I don't see why I'm having these nightmares. I do watch TV before I go to bed but I turn it off while I'm sleeping.
Other causes are high fever, medications, illegal street drugs, withdrawal from drugs or alcohol, or sleeping disorders like sleep apnea & narcolepsy. The list goes goes on and on. For me drinking milk before bed will give me a nightmare.
You said you watched t.v. before bed. If you're watching the latest Friday the 13th movie, that's probably not the best choice of programming to avoid the negative dreams.
If stress is your problem, I suggest a nice relaxing bath/shower before bed, followed by something you enjoy. Maybe reading a book, or calling a friend. If you do watch t.v., make sure it isn't scary and turn it off before you fall asleep. Happy dreaming! [ SilentAngel's advice column | Ask SilentAngel A Question ]

First I would advise you to think abotu anything that has changed since you started having worse and worse dreams. Then you can eliminate those stresses or overcome them. Mostly likely your nightmares will disappear when those stressful situations are gone.
That being said and done, there are many things you can do to make your mightmares go away. Nightmares are liek hiccups, different things work for different people. Here are some suggestions that might work for you:
-Praying if you are religious before goign to bed. When you pray before going to bed you feel at ease because you know God is out there watching you and taking care of you. So you might feel no as scared. (I pray every night before goign to bed and I havn't had a bad dream in forever).
-Think of a happy story before going to bed. For example think of all the things that went right that day, things that made you smile or laugh. You might end up dreaming of those happy moments instead of your bad dreams.
-Monitor what foods you eat before goign to bed. Sometimes when people have chocolate or other foods before going to bed it causes some pretty intense dreams. Be watchful of that.
-Try tricking yourself (i do some of this with my sisters when they have bad dreams)
-When you wake up from a bad dream flip your pillow, the bad dreams are now not under your head.
-Put a dreamcatcher above yoru bed.
-You can also have peaceful sounds playing while you go to bed.
-Also try not watching t.v. rigth before bed.
These are just somethings you can try. Liek I said, different things work for different people. Don't be afraid to try and have a positive mindset about them. Don't be afraid of your dreams. Remember, you control them.

Do slight mental workouts like meditation to ease the pressure. You should also look for more solutions on google and search "how to avoid nightmares?". In general, mental workouts usually helps. Hope that helps you out!!! [ azndude09's advice column | Ask azndude09 A Question ]
