Dad Send MONEY My dad left about 2 years ago. I am in serious financial trouble becasue I am a full time student and part time worker. I have tuition to pay fro and am 20yrs old. My dad and i don't speak very much but he asked me not to file any claims and he would "try" to send me money. he has send me MAYBE a total of 400 dollars since April. How do i file a claim against him. I need money and he should help me...what do i do???

last time I checked, you're an adult. he has no obligation to support you. there's this new thing called "working your way through college". try it out.

well now, maybe you should add that little tidbit of info the next time you ask a question...then you won't sound like a jackass. twenty fuckin grand? how in hell did that happen? if you or your mom co-signed on a loan for him....you're screwed. he can walk away from it and you're stuck. be specific on this, and people might be able to help you, instead of getting pissed off when you give them a poor rating for lack of bloody pertinent information. Have a great god damn weekend. ]
I guess I'm confused as to what these claims are?
If you feel he's responsible for your college, I don't see how that is right. You are 20 years old, and responsible for yourself legally, not Dad.
If you are 20 and he left 2 years ago, then he shouldn't owe any support for you, considering you would have been 18. We all know that once a person hits 18, they are legally responsible for themselves.
Sure, he SHOULD help you with your tuition, being your father and all. I just don't understand how he's legally responsible for your finances?
I'd wager you'd do much better being responsible for yourself and filing for grants and student loans.
Then again, I only have what you've written above to go by.
