will they notify me if he is let out of jail?

Question Posted Friday August 14 2009, 2:39 pm

15/f... yesterday I was walking home from volleyball practice when a man 'exposed' himself to me and was basically sexually harassing me. A lady who lived across the street saw it happen and called the police. I had to write a written statement explaining exactly what happened and then I had to identify him in some lineup pictures. He was arrested but the policeman said they 'might not have enough information to prosecute him'. Does that mean he could get out? If he does get out of jail, would they notify me or my parents, just so we know that he's still out there? I've never been through anything like this so I don't know how this all works...thank you for reading and answering.

If you request to be notified of his release they have to notify your parents. You probably should talk to your parents about what you can do to be more safe. Depending on where you live the laws are different but there is always ways to help you be safer. For instance in some places it is legal to carry mace or a tazor if it isnt they do have safety alarms that you pull when you feel threatened by someone they are designed to draw attention to the situation.
