For me, I get spotting a few days before a normal period (when I can call my period normal), so can't really start counting until the first "normal" day. For some women this is typical and not indicative of a problem. For others, like me, it is partly due to an ovary problem.
As today is the 7th, if you still haven't stopped, you might want to see a doctor. If you are feeling light-headed, or have severe cramping, or anything else that just isn't right, it is even more important to see a doctor. Otherwise, it could just be a shift in the way your cycle works. I just typically recommend talking to a doctor because I didn't until I was in my 20s, and I could have avoided a lot of trouble if I had gotten checked out sooner. I feel it is better safe than sorry. If nothing is wrong, you can feel relieved, and if there is a problem, you can get it taken care of sooner.
