I sucked my thumb up untill like sixth grade.
Go to the dentist, and get a habbit breaker
It goes on the roof of your mouth for as long as it takes for you to quit the habbit
Theres a metal thing that hangs down far enough for you either
a) not be able to suck your thumb
or
b) not be comfortable for you.
It doesn't hurt.
What the dentists does is, that glue it to you back molers and I think I had mine in for about 6 months?
That might be too long. I forget. But it works wonderfully.
And I was convinced it wouldnt work
But by the time I got it off, I didn't even THINK about sucking my thumb.
And I too needed to suck my thumb to go to sleep.
But now innstead I just wrap my arms around my pillow and teddy bear. <- Yes, it's quite comfortable. Not a habit I;m willing to break.
Call you dentist and set up a date to get this done.
The sooner you get it put in, the quicker it works.

There are lots of ways you can stop sucking your thumb.
I think if you get the urge to suck your thumb, pop a piece of gum in your mouth. Even though you'll be chewing gum & not sucking, it could help.
There's also nail polish that is said to taste really horrible. It can be used to stop thumb sucking or nail biting.
Another thing I would do is put hot sauce on your thumbs so you're not tempted to suck them. ]
What if you got something to suck on other than your thumb, like a lollipop or a Popsicle?
Or, you could try putting your hands under your pillow when you're going to sleep, so you don't have your thumbs near your face?
Good luck. I have bad habits, like biting my nails, and I can't break it, unless I have something to play with in my hands. So, I understand having a habit that's hard to break.

Okay so when I was little, the problem was I couldnt stop sucking on my thumb, they got me to stop in a couple of ways:
First I had a mitten put on the hand that I sucked my thumb with. A furry one at that haha, and only at night. It works because nobody wants to suck on a mitten.
Secondly, I my parents bought this clear nailpolish that is special because after you paint your thumb nail with it, and it dries, if you put your mouth on it or lick it, it tastes sour. Its not horrible, but it doesnt taste good.
Good luck!!!! Hope this helped :-) ]
Well sucking your thumb must be what comforts you. Everyone does something that makes them feel more comfortable like biting their nails or their lip or twirling their hair or playing with a necklace. I suggest every time you feel the urge to suck your thumb you do something instead of that that isn't so embarrassing. For instance, twirling your hair or wringing your hands, etc. Habits are easier to replace than erase. Hope I helped. :) ]
