ACT/SAT

Question Posted Saturday August 1 2009, 3:20 pm

So I'll be a junior this upcoming school year& I was wondering when I should take my ACTs and SATs. I've already talked to my parents about it, but they told me to talk to my school counselor (which I will, when school starts). I just wanted to get some ideas of when I should take them, in case i score badly.

Thanks in advance^^

Well, it depends on what sort of student you are. If you're the type that's going for a 2200 and will keep retaking it until you get it, you should start earlier in the year. Basically, I would recommend you take your SAT I in April, and the II in May. I'll just assume you're taking AP classes... if you take the II in May you have all the information from your AP test preparation still in your brain so you'll have an easier time with recall. As far at the ACT, you can pretty much take that whenever. If you don't do as well as you'd like on them, you can always retake them in the first few months of your senior year.

But yea, obviously talk to the counselor because they have more knowledge on specific dates and such. I unfortunately was sort of lost in the shuffle for awhile so I didn't know anything about SAT IIs or collegeboard.com, so make sure you have a good and active relationship with your counselor.
