Question Posted Friday July 17 2009, 2:12 pm

17/f.

ok, i want to lose a little weight, but i'm not really on a diet or anything. but anyway, my mom is starting to be annoying, because she thinks i'm anorexic. like, i try really really really really hard not to eat all day, but i end up eating like a salad or something, and that's all i eat. because when my stomach growls, like if i eat, i end up getting hungrier later too. but if i only eat once a day, towards like evening, i can sleep easier, and stuff. i also don't eat meat. i slip up occasionally, like maybe once a week i'll eat a bite of meat..

is this bad?

This is very bad, but not for the reasons you're thinking of. Your behavior will lead to severe nutritional problems if you do not get the right amount of vitamins per day, and you will become faint and light-headed if you do not get enough calories per day. It sounds like you are on a diet, and a very dangerous one. Eating meat and salad is by no means a slip-up. You should seek advice from a doctor about what you should be eating daily - if you carry on in this way, it could have serious effects on not only your physical health but your mental health too.
A healthy diet which will cause you to lose a little weight must have 3 meals a day. A good example of a healthy day would be a cereal like bran flakes with some fruit for breakfast (or a fruit juice), salad for lunch, and a balanced dinner like pasta with tomato sauce and vegetables, or chicken with rice/cous cous, or a jacket potato with a filling. You may not be anorexic in your eyes, but to a health professional it would seem as if you are heading in that direction.

yes, unfortunately this is not healthy eating habits.

does your weight seem to stay right where it is?

thats because you arent eating correctly.

you shoudl ALWAYS eat breakfast. ALWAYS, becuase if you eat something early, it wakes your metabolism up, and gets it going all day long. if you wait until 3pm to eat something, then your metabolism is off to a very slow start.

did you know its actually healthier to eat tiny portions of healthy food 5-6 times a day?

it is. and if you completely take meat out of your diet, and dont replace it with a protein substitute like tofu, you arent getting all of the nutrients your body needs to be healthy.

you can be a size 0 and be LESS healthy than someone a size 10. crazy right?? its true.

it doesnt matter how skinny you are, if your not healthy and dont get all your nutrients, you are just as likely to have a stroke or a heart attack as a very large person.

so to conclude, DO NOT EAT ONCE A DAY. eat 5-6 small meals a day. (your metabolism slows between meals) to keep it moving fast, eat every few hours.(it doesnt have to be a large meal, just a salad, or some tuna fish, or piece of fruit or some veggies.

hope this helps.
