Can a person have HIV/AIDS and not know it?

Question Posted Monday June 15 2009, 2:18 pm

I am just wondering if it is possible for someone to have contracted HIV or AIDS and for them not to know they have it at all?

I mean would you know if you have AIDS or HIV? And when would you know that you had it? How would you know? What would the symptoms be like?

Thank you!

For one, you can't get AIDS unless you have HIV, and having HIV doesn't necessarily mean you have AIDS, although it puts you at extremely high risk.

As with many STDs, it's very possible not to know you have it. The majority of people don't know unless they are tested.

If you are in any doubt, go to your doctor or sexual health clinic and get yourself tested.

Yes. It is very much possible to live with HIV/AIDS & not know it. You wouldn't know unless you get tested which you should be doing twice a year.

If you think you have AIDS, or even just wanna check to be sure you're clean, you can go to the doctors OR Planned Parenthood & get tested.

It's quite possible for someone to not know they have it. But realistically, someone should get tested every 6 months if they are sexually active, using a condom or not.

HIV/AIDS basically attacks your immune system, so my best bet would be the symptoms would be just feeling sick in general.

But, I don't know of any way to know FOR SURE it's AIDS, because you could get a common cold and die if you have AIDS- and you wouldn't know it was AIDS.

Go to the doctor to get tested if you are unsure.
