Diseased or Hormonal?

Question Posted Monday June 1 2009, 6:56 pm

I'm 16/f and lately I've noticed that I feel rather odd. I feel very tired at times when I go to school and I try to combat it with coffee so as not to fall asleep. I get enough sleep I think, from 11pm to around 6:15am? After school when I am coming home from school I feel my eyelids closing and I get motion sickness in the car ride home. My first thought was pregnancy, but that one has been completely ruled out (I've had two periods since the only time I had sex). So I'm not sure what's wrong. I also get joint pain a lot which is probably unrelated. I would go to the doctor's but unfortunately my medical insurance expired last month and my physical last month showed no abnormalities. So, is there something wrong with me? :(

Only a doctor can establish if there is a medical issue here or not. You often run from 6:15 a.m. through 11 p.m. That's a long day and no doubt if you are doing sports or other activities your joints will ache and you'll be tired way before bedtime.

I would try getting up a little later say an hour or even half an hour before going to school. Then in the evening try going to be earlier let's say 10 or even 9:30 p.m. I know it may sound early but it really isn't. I would think if you did this and slept as much as you could at night it might lick the problem. Try it and see.

Motion sickness can happen for many reasons but does have me concerned especially when it was never present before and being so tired too. It's probably related to being exhausted from your routine and needing a break but could be a health issue.

I live in Canada where health care is free to all. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to get new medical insurance or how to choose a doctor or even be seen to at a walk in clinic without an insurance policy.

Can you pay for a one time visit? It may be worth it to get it checked and have peace of mind and know you are safe. I would definitely speak to your parents about needing to see a doctor and get this handled as it does sound very strange unless it's all related to sleep and lack of energy.

I know if I get up at 6 and go to bed at 11 that I'm wrecked the next day and if I do it in succession that it adds up to being exhausted. That's likely what it is.
