if you get dred locks and you dont want them anymore do you have to shave your head?
or can u just cut your hair a little and use a shit load of conditioner er something?

You can cut them out to the level of your new growth. But you don't have to shave your head.

If the dreads are quite long? you'll have to cut most of them off, and then untangle the last few inches, or yes, shave off the whole lot.
You could also go to a professional who may be able to do it better.
