usually a relationship is going pretty well and then you hit a 'rough patch'. it's something you usually get over and are able to move on to the better things in your relationship =) [ jobrolover3725's advice column | Ask jobrolover3725 A Question ]

bluejeanbaby answered Monday March 9 2009, 4:01 am: It is classically defined as when things start to "go wrong" and the couple is fighting or just generally having trouble resolving their differences in what was previously a rewarding relationship. other expressions equivalent to the "rough patch" are saying that a couple is "on the rocks" or my personal favorite, that there is "trouble in paradise". Signs of a rough patch include a couple's mutual irritability when together or one person's growing discontent with the other, i.e. not calling this person as often.
