Ways to attract new members/Fundraising ideas?

Question Posted Saturday February 28 2009, 2:59 pm

Okay so I'm part of the Forensics (debate) team at my school and we're trying to come up with ways to get people to join. The main problem is that people don't realize that there's more than debating, like there are acting events and stuff too so we're trying to get people to come to practices so they can see what it's really like.
What are some good ways to attract new people.

Ideas that will not work: NO Posters, No announcemnts over the intercom/morning announcements.

We're planning on making flyers with all the exciting things debate lets you do (go on overnight trips, leave school early) for teachers to hand out to all their classes but that's the only idea we have so far. Any suggestions?

Also we need ways to get money for trips and stuff! Suggestion for this as well would be greatly appreciated.

You know, high school kids (assuming you are in high school) never really like giving things a chance. Most usually stick to what they know they're best at.

In a case like this, I suggest you try talking with the people in your school and explaining to them what your debate team is all about. Starts with close friends and try to get them to spread the word about the fabulous debate team.

As for making money for trips, trying bake sales usually gets a lot of money. If there's one thing a kid loves, it's sweets.
