Kittens.

Question Posted Monday February 2 2009, 2:25 pm

My cat just had kittens and I want to keep them as healthy as possible. Sometimes I give them water from my sink, sometimes I give them filtered water, and sometimes I give them water from the hose. Which is cleanest/which would they like best? And what should I use to wash the bowl?

the water doesn't matter, they're cats, not fish. but the stuff you wash the bowl with does. use dish soap, a very small amount, and rinse thoroughly.
just so you know:
distilled water is the "cleanest", basically its vaporized and recondensed to rid it of any contaminants. very tasty.
filtered water: its all filtered, if it comes out of the municipal water system its gotta pass all kinds of tests and standards, so don't worry about puss'n boots dying on you because of the water, unless you live in a superfund waste site.

Before giving them anything, go to a vet and have them checked over and see if they're okay if you haven't done so and see whether you should be giving them water yet and see what the vet says and get his advice.

Personally, I wouldn't be giving them water yet but when they're old to have it, then I would've thought that any kind of water would be good except hose water. As for the bowl, just ensure that it's properly cleaned out and dried. I would've thought that ordinary washing liquid would've done the trick.

I hope this helped and congrats to your cat!
