trainers...

Question Posted Saturday January 31 2009, 7:41 am

sorry, i wasn't sure exactly what category to put this under... but i kind of need some help. you see, i always get harrassed by personal trainers at the gym! and it's sooo annoying! like, a few times, i can understand that they're flirting. but, it's really gotten to an extreme. i use to be really fat and then got like super super fit and now i'm like a fitness fanatic, and i live at the gym, pretty much. I would LOVE to have a trainer, only because it makes things so much easier, and you don't really have to think about what you have to workout that day, they already have it planned out for you. but, unfortunately i can't afford a trainer right now. my family is having a financial crisis. the economy has effected us. However, I can't complain, because we are surviving. But, trainers are expensive, and right now, I don't have 100 an hour to give him. but, i feel kind of bad because he gave me a complimentary session and he was like "i can't wait to start training you," and all of that. so, i didn't tell him no straight out. so, now he's waiting. but, i don't know how to tell him that right now, we just can't afford him. that's like a luxury and it was absolutely necessary, I would do it. But, i know what i'm doing. What should I do? How can I tell him? And then there's this old trainer there, he's like this gross old man, whose always harassing me. like, he wanted me to do my assessment, which is like a physical, pretty much, that they do for you when you join the gym. i never got to do it with him, and my mom called him and told him that i couldn't do it right now, and that was that. so, then this new trainer, the one who wants to train me now, Vicente, did it for me. It's not like I had that happen on purpose. It just worked out that way because we were there on the same day, and he did it. So, then the old trainer saw us, and comes up to me and says "So, your mom finally let you come?" and I was like "my mom doesn't tell me what to do. I make my own decisions." How rude!! My mom doesn't tell me what to do first of all. I'm 18 years old. She was just helping me out, because he kept calling me like every 2 seconds. And second of all, how rude!! And then the other day when I was working out, he comes up to me and goes "I saw the side steps you were doing. Did you learn that from Vincente?" He's super scary!!!!!! Anyway, what should I do about both of these gentlemen?

thanks in advance.

Hey,
What to do with this old trainer? I would tell him to back off, or find someone who will help you get him off your back. I'm glad your mom is helping, even if you can take care of yourself. Hopefully he will get the hint when more people are telling him. He doesn't have the right to stick his nose in your business or push you around. Good for you for sticking up for yourself
About the other trainer, I would tell him the truth. Tell Vincente that is it nice of him to offer, but you don't have enough money at the moment. Try not to sound too depressed, just calmly tell him straight out. Say to him, that as soon as you get the money you will take up his offer and start training with him. It sounds as if he likes you :) If you tell him about your issue with money and the other trainer im sure he would back you up and understand your situation. Who knows maybe he will offer you more complimentary sessions ;)
Good luck :)
