homework habits

Question Posted Sunday January 25 2009, 11:58 pm

16.f

hey so i'm a sophomore in high school in all honors and AP :) and i realized that i have been getting pretty good grades. the thing is, i'm not particularly fond of my study habits ... or rather, my sleep habits. (and i know you're probably thinking, "well if it works for you and you're doing well, then stick to it!") i mean, sure i don't necessarily procrastinate and sure i get things done and do them well, but my problem is this. the following is my current schedule:

6:00 AM -- wake up
2:20 PM -- get back from school
2:20 PM - 5:00 PM -- do misc. homework / facebook
5:00 - 8:00 PM -- nap :( wake up, eat dinner
8:00 - 1:30 AM -- do the rest of my homework

i really want to stop napping. it's really hard sometimes though. i always used to think i had hypersomnia, but i don't. i want to finish AAAALLLLLL my homework by dinnertime and then relax. shower, read. the things i like to do to wind down, and then go to sleep by 10, 11 latest.

i WANT, however, to do this!
6:00 AM -- wake up
2:20 PM - 2:30 PM -- snack
2:30 PM - 7:00 PM -- FINISH ALLL HW with breaks of course
7:00 PM -- dinner
7:30 - 10:00 -- shower, read, relax.
10:00 -- bed

please help me? i make a to do list as soon as i get back from school and don't make schedules necessarily because i feel frustrated when i can't stick to the times.

Hello, hmm I was in your same situation, all honors and AP classes can be a difficult schedule but it is very important to get enough rest and have alittle you time,If you dont find that balance it will effect you mentally. Would you say you receive homework in every class everyday?. The second schedule you wrote seems pretty reasonable I mean if you get the homework done that is a priority and due the next day you will have more time on your hands. I have a feeling that you are doing work ahead of time just to get it out of the way and I know reading chapter books, chapters in textbooks and projects take up most of your time but the projects are usually given a time period. Try to slow down and do alittle at a time do not overwhelm your self because going to sleep at 1:30 or 2:00 is not efficient it is causing your drowsiness. I however do think a to do list and or a planner would be helpful for you just to know due dates and to keep what you have to do in oreder,it feels so good to check something off that has to be done. Do not get frusted if you dont do everything on your list as long as you do what is needed and take time for yourself then you have had a productive day. The schedule that you want to do is very possible you just have to manage what you have, I dont know what kind of assignments you get or how often but there are wats around getting everything done without having to feel so tired afterwards. I hope this was helpful,,the best of luck to you, if I was not specific enough then you can always send me a private message and I will sure to get back with you with more detailed advice:)....

To get out of the habit of napping you should start napping less and less. Set your alarm clock so that you can wake up after a certain amout of time. Lower the amount of time every couple of days. Soon you wont need naps at all. Good luck.
