I downloaded the kiwee toolbar for my windows live messenger 8.1. It all installed and is there, but when I click on the menu for anything (winks, emoticons, etc.) I get a blank blue-gray window. I've tried re-installing, searching the FAQs at kiwee, and emailing their support, and I still have no answer. Can anyone help me with this?

You answered my questioned about the kiwee program. It took me a long time to figure it out. I looked thru securities stuff like you said. I got rid of every program I wasn't using that I thought would interfere with kiwee. I even did a full reinstall of Firefox and some other crap. It ended up being something so simple. Maybe if I knew more about this stuff I woulda figured it out right away. I was pretty sure it wasn't because of some active x controller issues. I just happened to look at the addons and plug-ins in my firefox and saw that there was some stuff for netscape on there. What caught my eye was there were 2 java 6 platforms, one being for netscape, and it said dll helper in parentheses. I disabled the netscape one, and bam! the little smilely window loads up. So... it was some conflicting plug-ins that was the issues. I just thought I'd let you know, so you can advise anyone else that might have similar issues in the future.

Your antivirus, antispyware, or popup blocker may be blocking Kiwee from loading the smiley images. Try disabling them. Also disable Spybot's "immunize" feature, SpywareBlaster, and similar preventative programs.
