Thank you very much for asking me a question! :)

Answer: Maybe.

It really depends when you start the pills and when your cycle is naturally due. During the first month -almost- all women end up spotting a little when their period would have been.

Some women will be on the pill for some months and "stack" the pills--meaning instead of taking the last week of hormone-free pills they go on and start a new pack. Many women believe that this will make their period not come but they usually end up spotting for a lengthy period of time. Doing this frequently can damage your body so it isn't recommended, really. The hormonal birth control pill wasn't designed to work that way. There IS a pill that makes your period come once every so many months so if that is something you're interested in then please get the pill that is designed to be used in that manner. (The depo shot also tends to make your periods non-existent for some time but has some nasty side effects that come along with the shot.)

You typically start hormonal birth control pills the sunday when you're having a period or the sunday directly after you've had your period. The period will then slow down to a halt in a couple of days--which might make it shorter than you usually experience. [SOME women may spot that entire month while their bodies try to adjust to the new hormone level.] Then, from that date, you should have about 28 days or so before you shed the lining of your uterus again. Like I said, many women spot a little during the first month of usage anyway and there really isn't any way to tell if you're going to or not.

So, in short, probably not but it COULD happen if it's timed just right. A good thing about the pill is that you always know when your period is going to come weeks in advance (months, really, if you want to sit down and calculate it up--which would really take little effort). This being said, if you know WHEN your period is going to come, you know WHEN it's "safe" to go on vacation and not have a visitor with you ;)

If I've made myself unclear please let me know and I'll try to rephrase the information. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask me! :)
