How do money order work to and from other countries?
Question Posted Sunday November 9 2008, 8:35 pm
I am currently living in the United States but I have found something online (on Ebay) that I want to purchase from Canada. I contacted the Ebay seller that I wanted to buy the Ebay item and that I was from the United States. The Ebay seller mailed me back and told me that I had to pay in Canadian currency.
I was planning on sending a money order to the Ebay seller, but I'm not sure how that will work since I don't know to get a money order in Canadian currency.
How can I do this and how do I convert my U.S. money to Canadian so I can buy the Ebay item? I REALLY want to buy this from Ebay but I don't know how to do it the right way. Please help before the ebay item closes!
All you have to do is go to your local post office and ask for an INTERNATIONAL (that's the key word) Money Order in the amount of X dollars and X cents and you're set. You don't have to convert any cash into American or CDN at all.
The teller will know the exchange rate between CDN and American and will tell you to pay X in American which is X in CDN in American funds but will stamp CDN funds on it and International.
If in doubt ask the post office clerk for assistance. All you do is fill in the name of the recipient and put your signature. I strongly recommend you send it by tracking number so they can't deny they never got it let alone can't cash it if they didn't wait for it.
You pay a small fee for the processing of the money order. You can also go to a bank and do it but it takes longer. This is quick and simple. I do it all the time. So go ahead and bid in confidence. [ solidadvice4teens's advice column | Ask solidadvice4teens A Question ]
