Cream is a very, very light shade of brown, really, or an off-white (white with a touch of yellow or very, very light touch of brown). Try to keep with earth tones because of this. You could go with an ocean colored blue and still make the outfit mesh.
Earth tones would be colors that resembles those of the earth. When you think of the earth you usually think of certain blues, greens, browns, and maybe even greys.
Personally, I would not go for very, very bland colors like another cream, light beige, pale yellow, etc. It would make your outfit look very plain and ordinary and, depending on the natural undertones, may cause your skin tone to blend in far too much. The eye would pass over your outfit quickly, details would be lost, and you wouldn't look very interesting.
To be more flirty, you may pair the jacket with even brighter colors, but at caution. Pinks and reds may go well with the jacket, but sometimes you may end up looking like a clown. I'd imagine a fairly light pink would go well opposed to a very bright, eye-popping pink. If the color is too bright, your jacket will be lost in the color and "ignored" by the eyes.
Brown is a good selection.
If you could supply a good photo of the jacket it would be even more helpful in determining the perfect color; however, it sounds like you already have a pretty good idea. [ Peeps's advice column | Ask Peeps A Question ]
