I keep receiving a "Direct Access to this location is not allowed" error whenever I try going onto my Joomla website, as well as attempting to go onto my Joomla administrator.
However, I heard that you have to edit the index.php file, or something like that, but I'm not sure what you have to change.
This is a very common problem with Joomla users, and is usually the result of a template that isn't compatible with the current version, in combination with the Joomla user not running in legacy mode to support the older template, extension, module or whatever is causing the ruckus.

Without going through your template code line by line, this could be very hard for someone to solve. The experts on the Joomla support forum are you new best friends.
Joomla can be a real monster when you are just starting out, but I have one helpful piece of advice that goes for any script: Install the stock version with the stock Joomla template and see if it works. If it does, then that is fine and you know it isn't server related.
