I have a half a bottle of red wine that has been sitting on my counter for a little over a week...is it ok to drink?

Probably not since it's been uncorked and in room temperature for so long.

It's not that it is harmful but it, most likely, won't taste the same as it did. Bacteria has had time to grow in it, especially since it was in room temperature air and not a cooler-refrigerator.

Sometimes, if stored properly, it can keep for about a week with fairly decent taste. People usually put the cork back in tightly (usually get it started by hand and then press the bottle against a wall to get the cork all the way in), and then stick the bottle in the refrigerator, slightly tilted up to avoid the wine from coming in contact with the cork. The tricks to saving wine are: keep the temperature low because bacteria take longer to work at lower temperatures, have as little air as possible since air will oxidize the wine turning it sour, and have a good seal to prevent air from entering (this is actually worse than having air stuck in the bottle).

Really, 2-3 days is generally the rule for most wine. If it is a cheaper bottle of wine (say less than $20) it usually will only last a day after it's opened, especially if it isn't refrigerated. If it's a more expensive wine or is meant to be aged, you will often find it to be better the next day than when you opened it and to last a good 3 days. After that, it usually starts getting vinegary though.

It wouldn't be harmful to drink, but it could be unpleasant. You can always use it for cooking if you don't want to throw it out :)

I do wish the other users here on Advicenators would realize that good wine is not as simple as letting some mashed up grapes rot in the warm air for a few years before drinking it.

If you have any more questions please feel free to ask me! :)

Depends on the type of wine.
Usually people drink it no matter how old it is.
But if you don't want to get sick or anything,
invest in another bottle of wine..

Considering the finest wines are aged many, many years, it should be fine.
They say red is best sipped at room temperature, and after allowed to air in the glass for a few minutes.
