How do you know if you've started your period?
I'm 12, &I can't tell if I've started my period yet. I'm too embarrassed to tell my mom cos I don't know how to put it in words.

you can tell if u have started your period if its a narrow strip of dark brown pink or red. if it dlear and gooey then its just discharge. but ive lived with my dad for more than 10 years and when i started he was home i came out of the bathroom and i was like daddy! my underwear is ruined! and he was like what do u mean and i showed him so yaaaaaaa.

If you have any brown or red stains that means you started. When i first started, i didn't want to tell my mom either, but you have to tell her because she has to buy you pads or tampons. It's not bad after you just say it quick. If you started go up to your mom and say "Mom, i started." That's all you say. If you don't want to tell her in person, say it over the phone (that's what i did). Hope this helps! Good luck!

If you're just having the white, gooey stuff, that's just discharge and you haven't actually started your period, but it could be coming soon.
If you're actually having blood come out of your vagina, then you've started. It should last a few days. You may need to tell your mom because I'm not sure how else you're going to be able to get yourself pads or tampons. You'll need to wear something so it doesn't leak through - no way of getting around that.
There is such a thing as a "pre period". It's when you get spotting for a day or so. Spotting is basically just a little bit of blood. You can get it between periods, and most girls can get spotting months before their period or right before they start.
Unfortunately, though, you must be 13 years or older to use this website, so I'm going to have to ban you.

well, believe me you will know when you start your period.
but, it may be embarrassing to talk to your mom about it but it will save you the embarrassment of getting in somewhere where you don't have anything to cover it up..
for instence if you don't talk to her and you get it in..
idk lets say school, then it will show through your pants.
it seems embarassing to talk to them but they have been through it too and they're not going to laugh at you or make jokes.
i was scared to tell my mom at first too but once i did now it feels like i can talk to her about anything.
