Life is about risk and taking chances, but you have to be prepared for failure. Believe in yourself. Confidence is key.
If you're sure you can handle a rejection then find him at the dance and ask him to dance. A lot of guys like when the girl is forward. You have to be confident at the same time though, and that's the hard part of it all.
Just remember that if you do this and he shoots you down, that it's not the end of the world. Life goes WAY beyond cute men... it goes to hot men, handsome men and men that buy you things (just kidding, but seriously it won't be the end of the world, I promise). You could all ride there together and you could get to know him on the way. Then, you could hang with him at the dance (but don't be TOO clingy) and if he shows any interest in you, ask him if he wants to dance/ hang out again sometime. Hope all goes well!
