joslin diabetes center

Question Posted Sunday September 21 2008, 9:18 pm

Hi, I'm 15 years old, about to be sixteen in november, and I'm very active as I play many sports. I went to go get a physical in august where they took a bunch of blood and tested my hormones and what not because I have really bad periods. One of the nurses called my mom and told her that my hormones were elevated and that probably just means that I will go on the pill or she (my doctor) might want her to go see and endocrinologist. So that was a week or two ago and now they have sent in the mail that they have set up an appointment at Joslin Diabetes Center. The date is not right away it's in December, but this really makes me nervous. What is the likely hood I have some kind of cancer or diabetes? Or am I getting nervous for nothing?

I would call the doctor and find out why
you are being sent to the diabetes center.
Make sure there hasn't been a mix up somewhere along the line. See if the diabetes center
deals with more than just diabetes.

The reason I'd like you to do this is that
is still a couple of months away. Its also
pretty good news. If it was anything major
they would get you in a lot earlier than
December.

I am guessing that your hormone elevation
is something they want to figure out, but
may not know exactly why yet.

Since they aren't jumping right on it, I
don't think you need worry about it to much.
You just need to find out why. :)

This doesn't sound like any symptoms to diabetes that I know of. I have been Type 1 diabetic for 19 years. I'm not sure of the cancer. If it helps, bring a list of questions for the doctor. I have included a roguh symptom list for cancer and diabetes.
Good luck!
Hope I helped!
