In business we have the stuff drilled into our brains lol (the word they keep flinging around is synergy... which basically means the same). Business units working together (e.g. departments) should produce synergy. When engaging in mergers & acquisitions you might also seek a partner that, when united with your resources, will produce an outcome more favourable than the two of you working separately. When you have a team full of people where everybody wants to go off and do their own thing and be selfish, that doesn't work.
So that means that when you have a bunch of random people who only think about themselves, that isn't as cool as having a team who functions as one.
