How do I learn to play guitar? Which guitar is good for beginners?
Question Posted Friday September 19 2008, 7:22 pm
I really want to learn how to play the guitar; however, I am a total beginner and I have no idea to look for when purchasing a guitar. I need some advice on where to begin!
Since I am just learning how to play, which guitar is best to begin on: acoustic or electric?
How much should I expect to spend on a good guitar for beginners? How long should a guitar last me? A lifetime? A couple of years?
I have seen some cool brands called Gibson, Ibanez, Fender, and Peavey. Which brand is best to start on though? I know the model or style might vary according to what stage you are in playing so any information on finding the right guitar for me is appreciated.
I want to end up playing some Jonas Brothers songs. I really love the Jonas Brothers and I think they have great music. The Jonas Brothers' songs don't sound too difficult to learn, I think, but I have no idea where to start. I know I need to look for guitar tabs for the Jonas Brothers but I don't know where I buy guitar tabs at or where to find guitar tabs online! If anyone could direct me to that as well, I would be thrilled.
As a note, I do plan on basically teaching myself how to play. My best friend plays a little bit and she has agreed to help me start out since she taught herself how to play guitar.
Any and all information is welcome!

I spent 200 for my guitar from American Musical supply and got the amp and the picks and CDs, lesson dvds and the works. Bad part it broke, i mean just broke it didn't fall or anything, just broke, in a really bad place too. but i took it to a guitar shop and they glued it for me perfectly. and that only ran 30 dollars. so what i am getting at is it can pretty much last a life time if you get an adult sized guitar and you have someone to fit it when worst comes to worst. For finding the right guitar i would talk to the person going to give you lessons. on an acoustic i believe it doesn't really matter cause i started with one brand and been playing for three years. it was an eipiphne. My best guess for you is to get a guitar teacher cause they will take you to the top and they know pretty much where to get and do everything. Don't get me wrong your friend might be really good, but there may be some things that she can't teach that a guitar teacher might and they are inexpensive for lessons. (Or at least mine was.) I get some of my songs on line and i mostly get them a e-cords.com
So have a great time playing. [ Kittzen's advice column | Ask Kittzen A Question ]
