difference between ep and studio album?

That's an EP. Usually it's five songs or less, but Relient K kind of broke that idea when they did The Bird and Bee Sides with 26 songs on that EP...

Obviously nowadays its a CD not a record, but the point is still the same.

Generally, an EP has about 5 songs and a studio album or LP has from 12-17 or so.

An EP usually has no more than 5 songs and a full length album 10-12+ That's more or less the difference from what I can tell having owned a few of both. There may be a better explanation posted by someone else later but this is what I know about the subject.
