last year, as a freshman in high school, i had gym the period right after lunch. after the first few days of school, i realized that if i ate lunch, i'd cramp SO BADLY in gym. so, for the entirety of last year, i skipped lunch and instead ate a small dinner at 3 pm and another small dinner at six or 7. and the worst part was, some days i'd skip breakfast :(
so THIS YEAR, i know i'll be stressed out but i really want to eat breakfast and lunch. so i want some cute ideas for lunch. i tried googling, "teen lunch ideas" "lunch ideas" and "simple lunch ideas" and i came up with this list.
for the main: peanut butter & jelly with toasted whole wheat bread, turkey and mozzarella on whole wheat, and ham and mustard on whole wheat, nutella & banana on whole wheat? is that too fattening? nutella & sliced strawberries on whole wheat? is that too fattening?
sides: baggies of fruit (strawberries, blueberries, grapes), applesauce, celery & ranch dip, celery & peanut butter, crackers with cheese
drinks: small 8 oz water bottle? how do i make that interesting (i know like water flavorings, but do they work for 8 oz bottles too?) what else besides juice boxes?
so, does anyone have any other SIMPLE suggestions for lunch (or breakfast! i usually eat honey bunches of oats with orange juice, or toast with jam and orange juice)? i'm really picky and i will be forced to throw all the remaining garbage away. as in, no thermoses (no soup, no hot sandwiches) , and no "gladware" (like no salads). so it's pretty much only different sized bags OR pre-packaged foods (e.g, pudding, applesauce). what other healthy snacks are there?
please note: i am not trying to lose weight but i don't want to eat unhealthy foods. so you can recommend some things that are not exactly the healthiest things in the world as sides because i do get sick of plain fruit really fast, unless i add nutella.
i love cold sandwiches. and i don't want to buy ingredients that spoil quickly and you have to use them up really, really fast. cause then i have to eat the SAME thing for 5 days straight to avoid it going bad and i get sick of it. and i want some crispy snacks because i want to cut out chips from my diet, and i don't think pudding is the best choice either. i'm a chocoholic but i can live without it. what's a healthy alternative for fried potato chips that's CRISPY (besides crackers and cheese)?
Additional info, added Thursday August 28 2008, 7:58 pm: oh and i hate pretzels & i don't want to buy lunch.. Want to answer more questions in the Health & Fitness category? breakfast, i make eggs. i dont drink milk, so cereal is out the window. it means getting up earlier, but it can be worth it.
my perfect lunch really only is a samie, lets say: edam, lettuce, tomato, mayo and some onion for a kick; then a salad with an italian dressing: because it is a vinigar based, it holds really well, fridge it at night, but it will be fine; and water or sugar free juice. Eating healthy can also kill the cramps. its when you eat greasy food that you get cramps. playing hockey for 10 years showed me that, if i were to eat Mc.Donalds before a game, i would get cramps, but if i ate a chicken dinner and veg or something, i would be fine.
