You must be 18 to get a credit card. It's a federal law. As fortylove pointed out, anyone can get a debit card.

You can usually take money directly out of the card at an ATM, but the interest might be higher. ]
You don't have to be 18 to get a checking account, which will give you a debit card. As long as your parents have an account at the same bank and they're willing to be secondaries on the account.
And you can go to the ATM to get money and stuff.
I have CharterOne and it works out okay. I'd avoid American Express and Discover because I know some places don't accept it. Mastercard and Visa are okay.
I would definitely get something with online banking because it helps you avoid overdrawing your account.
But the first step is defnitely talking to your parents about it. ]
