speed up at locker

Question Posted Thursday August 21 2008, 7:16 pm

so this is the deal.

last year, a freshman in high school, i never stopped at my locker cause i NEVER got time to. we have two levels in my school, upstairs and downstairs, and then the "D" and "B" sections on each level. it's easier to go from the B section downstairs to the D sections downstairs and DIFFICULT to go switch levels. my schedule was all over the place and i never got time to go to my locker.

LUCKILY, this year, most of my classes are downstairs :) and so i can actually stop at my locker which is downstairs.

there is ONE and only ONE thing that i am stressed out for school. because i never stopped at my locker last year, i lacked practice in going fast from class to locker to class.

simply put, i want tips to hurry up!

THINGS I HAVE ALREADY CONSIDERED:
(1) before i stop at my locker, i'll be sure to note which binders and books i need so i don't waste time standing in front of my locker.

(2) and i remember in 8th grade i preset my locker two numbers so that in case i get sidetracked and i can just move it to the next number, grab my books and go. if i have time, i'll preset it again.

(3) WE DO NOT HAVE PM HOMEROOM. it goes from last period straight to dismissal, and i don't want to miss my bus! so i'm gonna try to stop at my locker before my last period, too.

any other tips?! i am pretty organized so i will obviously keep it neat. the only thing i'll need to do between classes when i stop at my locker is drop off my books & pick up my new ones. i don't do my make-up or anything else. i hope i'm not overanalyzing this, but is it easier to take out one binder at a time and say like, "ok i don't need this binder" (take it out, put it into your locker, take the one you need) OR take all your binders out and put them into a small pile in front of you, take out the binders you need and put them into your bag, and THEN put in the binders you don't need? cause like if you need to hurry you can just shove them into your locker, right?

omg i'm so sorry. i just. i don't want to be late to class, or worse, MY BUS! most days one of my parents can pick me up but some days they can't and i don't want to miss my bus :(

You're lucky you have time this year to stop at your locker- we have lockers at my school but the campus is so weirdly spread out that nobody even uses them :)

Anyway, for the first few days you might want to make fewer trips to your locker just to be safe. Like, get all the stuff for your morning classes, and then switch out your crap at lunch for your afternoon classes. Then you can get a better idea of how you can go about things. That way, you won't have to worry about being late for the first couple of days- that can be nervewracking! However, at my school the teachers are really lenient about tardiness for the first week. I don't know about your school, but keep that in mind.

If you're organized, you will be perfectly fine. Just know what binders/books you need to grab before you get there so you don't waste time. Also, I wouldn't recommend going to the bathroom and your locker in the same passing period. You probably won't have enough time for that.

Relax! Pretty soon you'll get into a routine and you won't be so anxious about it.

Everything you said is fine. But you're acting like you only have 2 minutes passing time! =]

I think it's easier if you have each binder/folder labeled clearly with the class name so that you can see it when you look in your locker. That way nothing has to come out unless you need it.

The more you stress about your locker, the later you will be ;]
