Question Posted Wednesday August 20 2008, 8:38 pm

Hi, I am a singer and I would like to start putting my songs on myspace music..but I need some kind of program to record it. I have a microphone built into my computer, and I have the program sound recorder, but I get soo much backround noise. Is there a way to reduce the sound, and make it sound more professional?

Audacity will do what you need and it is free so that is a no brainer. If you want something practical and not expensive then you can try 1AVCapture, it has 21 days of free audio recording.

In recording, you are limited most severely by the equipment you use. A cheap PC mic and software audio mixer will give you sub-standard results compared to professional set ups (Which can run well into the tens of thousands).

It all depends on how serious about your singing you are.

There are plenty of programmes out there but they tend to be expensive. To begin with I suggest you download Audacity, which is free software designed to edit and record music. It has a tool on it which will enable you to remove some background noise and get a better sound quality. The link to download it is below.

If you are serious about your music career, you might find it useful to do some research into recording studios. Studio time can be very expensive, so it might not be appropriate for you right now but getting your music professionally recorded will give a much better quality of sound.
