To clone a DVD, use imgburn:

Just "convert DVD to image" and then "burn image to DVD".

To turn a DVD into a video file, first use the free version of this to take files off DVDs you already have:

That will create in your "my documents" folder a folder called "VIDEO_TS". In that folder is "something.IFO". Use AutoGK on that file to convert it into a usable video file:

You can further encode the resulting .avi file with Mediacoder:

If you want to burn normal video files onto a disk, use this:

If you buy commercial programs like Nero or AnyDVD you won't have to use so many separate free programs.

You need a DVD burner ($30) and a blank DVD($.50) to copy a DVD. You can buy blank DVDs at Wall-Mart. It's best to buy a DVD burner online. I can't recommend one without more information about your computer.
