expensive "high quality" straighteners = Is that why those are so much more expensive, b/c they get hotter?

It can be one of the reasons.
Another reason refers to the plates on the straightener. You should go for solid ceramic plates, because they make less damage to your hair, than say, metal plates.

actually there more expensive because the metal plates are different in each starightner the heat doesnt have much to do with it. It has more to do with the quality of the metal plates that make your hair straight when they get hot.
