Canon Rebel XTI 10.1 MP.

Question Posted Saturday August 16 2008, 9:16 am

I've been going pretty strong in photography for a few years now, but I really need to upgrade my camera. I have a sony cybershot 7.2 mp, most people wouldn't consider it a 'great photography' camera, but i also think it has to do with the photographer, not the camera, but ANYWAYS...

I'm getting a Canon Rebel XTI 10.1 MP for christmas, hopefully. And I'm also thinking about getting into Macro Photography. Does anyone know if this is a good camera for this type of photograpy?

Or, can someone suggest a macro lens for me?

Hey there, I have the exact Canon you're talking about and I really freaking love it. It's so versatile- I took it to Europe and got loads of really great shots. I'm not a great photographer by any means, but the camera really makes my pictures look awesome. The only drawback is that it feels super bulky if you're used to the Sony Cybershot.

With that said, I really think that the best feature about this camera is that it takes AWESOME macro pictures. It's definitely magazine quality. When my friends saw the macro pics I had taken of my garden, they seriously thought they were professional pictures. The camera is great for capturing every single little detail. And the color is so precise... it amazes me every time.

My sister has a Digital Rebel as well- I believe hers is 8 MP. It's also amazing and not as expensive. If you end up getting a camera in the Digital Rebel series, you will love it!

the canon rebel dslr cameras are great cameras when you're trying to get into more 'professional' shooting. I myself have the rebel xt. You'll find that the kit lens the camera comes with isn't a great lens though [although it still does the job when taking normal distance pictures]. But you cannot do true macro photography with the kit lens.

Lenses are pricey [I'm looking at a lens now that's $600 :/].

those two are good macro lenses. You might be able to find a deal on a used macro lens as well.

Here's a good intro to macro photography by the way:

Here's also a good forum for photography questions:

But yeah, good camera choice, you'll be very happy with it. good luck with your photography.
