i'm doing a play next week that is set in the 50's, but my only problem is i have no clue as to what the every day style was back then! the only two i faintly know of are those t-shirt dresses or the overly-high waisted skirts. dose anyone know of any other trends? also where can i find clothing like this, besides thrift stores? thank you so much for your help!
I don't know if you'll be able to find this style in many places... if you have some ugly dress in your closet that has an all-over print, try cutting the sleeves off and adding a belt around the waist. My friend found a dress in a thrift shop one time that had an all-over cherry print with a pale blue background... it was pretty much the ugliest thing I had ever seen. It looked like a parachute at first. Then, she added a red belt to give it shape and wore it with red flats and red earrings- it looked really cute!
You don't necessarily have to wear a poodle skirt to look 50s-ish. First, go look through your closet and see what you can work with. Then, go to garage sales or stores like T.J. Maxx or Ross... you're bound to find something that will work! [ uisforukelele's advice column | Ask uisforukelele A Question ]
