Aucunu answered Tuesday August 12 2008, 1:48 am: I had all four taken out about 2 and a half weeks ago. Luckily I felt no pain. Although I'd love to attribute this to taking perfect care of myself, I think I just have lucky genetics. I'll share what my oral surgeon instructed me during my pre-op:
Typically it takes four days maximum for the pain to go away. If it's painful to the point where you cannot function, you may consider calling your oral surgeon. You may be able to take a dosage of two vicodin instead of just one.
Make sure you're taking care of yourself. Avoid the sucking motion and be tender with your mouth. Tomorrow, you'll want to rinse your mouth with salt water.
Also, ice helps. Try icing one side of your face for 20 minutes and then the other for 20 minutes, and repeat as desired. This helps numb the area as well as minimize the swelling.
