I have heard the movie and book are very similar. And yes spark notes are great, b/c I used sparknotes for a project on the book last year. It was quite helpful I must say.
You could probably but the parknotes book, but online works really good, because you can print anything you want and get character anyalisis. Its great!

1.) it seems as though the movie and the book are quite similar because the movie got 100% on rottentomatoes.com
2.) there should be a sparknotes for the grapes of wrath. go to your nearest bookstore. it's honestly that hard of a book to understand though. don't be intimidated by its length. i just read it a few days ago
