Okay. Ive had my ears pierced for probably a good two months, or at least the six weeks needed to heal. So I can change my earrings as long as theyre straightpost. When can I start wearing the nice big hoops, and cute dangling earrings?
Anyway. Ive kept cleaning the holes. When I take out my earrings to clean/ change them, sometimes I notice something stuck to the post. It looks like a teeny bit of flesh, though! Just a sandgrain big.
Around my holes, you can feel something hard under the skin. It feels like a bit of cartilage even though I only have my lobes pierced. My mom said it could be scar tissue. Like, when you press the back of my ear with the thumb, you can see it come front.
Also, it hurts to put my earrings in! Sometimes I can barely get them in at all.
Im assuming theyre not healing properly.
Sorry, this is a bit long! But it was sort of hard to explain, and I had a few questions :/
They say that the average healing time for an ear piercing is 6-8 weeks. However, all of us heal at different rates and yours can be healing a tad bit more slowly. So I suggest that you go back to your original earrings and keep them in for another week and keep checking to see if you're having issues with it. After a month, if the pain doesn't go away, I suggest you go to the piercer or a doctor to make sure it's not infected and insure that you're not getting a keloid (scar tissue).
You should be cleaning your holes twice a day at the most, no more than that because you can irritate it and cause the healing process to slow down. Also, you shouldn't be messing around with them too much. The only time you should move them (twist them once) is when you clean them, again to avoid irritating them and hindering the process of healing. If you don't have a cleaning solution, you can always use 8oz of warm water with 1/8 to 1/4tsp of sea salt. Again, more salt does not equal faster healing so keep it at 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon at the most. Also when you clean, be gentle and always wash your hands first.
The tiny bit of flesh looking thing is most likely pus, and as gross as that sounds, it just means your ears are getting rid of dead tissue which means that it's likely to be healing (still).
The hardness is where your ears are pierced...the hole part of it so don't worry too much about it. You should only start to worry about a scar tissue when it becomes visible even though you're not pushing it or touching your lobes. In the meantime, do NOT push your lobes around except to put earrings in because this can encourage you to develop a scar tissue.
As for the earring putting in business, again, just keep your regular ones in to heal and check every week to see the progress. It could be because you're not putting it in the way the piercing made. What I found easy was to put your thumb in the back of your lobe where the exit hole is and push in with your index finger from the front and "guide" your way using where your thumb is. You'll understand what I'm saying when you try it. Or sometimes if you pull your lobe down and look in the mirror to see the opening and put in the edge of your earring in then turn around and try to feel your earring and make sure it's going straight. When you look away from the mirror you become more careful and aware of what you're doing.
jobrolover3725 answered Thursday July 31 2008, 7:43 pm: this happened to mine too. it stays like that for awhile but eventually it goes away. your ears might be really sensitive like mine are and they might be allergic to anything that's not 14 carat gold. so make sure you wear those type of earrings. after my ears healed i could wear whatever type of earrings i wanted. or you might have an infection. you could go to the doctor, but i don't think it's that big of a deal where you NEED to because as i said, the same thing happened to mine and it went away eventually. :)
