Pictures on my computer

Question Posted Tuesday July 22 2008, 8:59 pm

Ok, this is really weird!... So I was reading on of the questions on this website, and then I clicked on a picture link. Then it opened something, and then my picture viewer popped up with A LOT of pictures. The thing is, I never saved any of those pictures on my computer!!! What's going on? I'm soo sure no one else saved them. I think they're just pictures or things I've seen on the internet. I'm really get freaked out cause I'm thinking this is like a virus. I also tried to search one o the file names so I can see where everything is located, but nothing came up! Even though I typed and searched the exact same name as one of the pictures. Now I'm having to delete these pictures, even though I never saved them D: and I don't know where any of them are coming from, so this might happen again later. Does anyone know what's going on, or what I should do?!

Additional info, added Wednesday July 23 2008, 12:38 am:
Is this like an "image log" or something? I'm confused, and will anything bad happen if I delete them?

Thanks!!!

Oh, and not all of the pictures were "picture links" I clicked on. They were just random pictures I've seen from websites. Like the featured columnist's picture on the front page, I saw that in the bunch of pictures.

Yes, all browsers save every image you view for at least a few minutes (usually hours or days). You must have accidentally opened the cache. I doubt it's a virus, and I doubt it will ever happen again.

Stopping your browser from caching images will slow down your browsing a lot, and it's not always possible. I won't give a list of instructions here. Ask me another question with the name of your browser if you want instructions. Do not tell me in the feedback, I can't respond to that.

If you want to clear the cache, follow these instructions:

If you don't know what browser you have, you have IE 7 or 6 (probably 7).

In IE 7, go to tools, internet options. In the general (default) tab, click "delete..." in the "browsing history" section. Then click at least the first "delete files".

In IE 6, go to tools, internet options. In the general (default) tab, click "delete files" under the "temporary internet files" section.

In Firefox, Opera, Netscape, and Flock go to tools, delete private data. Check at least "cache".

In K-Meleon, go to tools, privacy, clear all.

In SeaMonkey, go to edit, preferences. I believe the option is under "privacy and security". Look for "clear cache" or "delete data".

In AOL Explorer, go to tools, delete usage tracks.

In Maxthon, go to tools, safety, clear cache.

In Avant, go to tools, clear records.

If any of the above methods fail, use CCleaner:

If I did not cover your browser, read the documentation.

umm well a similar thing just happened to my cousin with pop ups that ultimately destroyed her computer but dont freak out yet. But yea, they are prolly just random pictures from the internet that you just so happened to stumble on that went crazy when you clicked them.

The best thing i can say is be careful what websites you visit becuase their are alot of viruses out there waiting to eat your computer up.Just pay attention to what all they have on them.
As for the unknown pictures before you try to delete them yourself, i would call a computer specialist that can maybe fix your problem.
