solidadvice4teens answered Sunday July 6 2008, 9:19 pm: Supposedly it is a talent agency which has 10 or so different labels and an abundance of artists. They say it's been around for 13 years and have different artists one can book.
If they've been around that long and don't have a single client mentioned on their page that's done a damn thing steer clear. legitimate managers do not solicit material from potential clients through Myspace or the Internet.
It's just not how the business works and isn't how you will get a recording contract. In all likelihood this is some kind of scam they are running to capitalize on your dreams and rip you off some how.
Legit agents also list their address on any site they operate and a telephone number that isn't a 1-800 line. It all looks like a scam to sucker people naive about the business right in. Honey, if it looks too good to be true than it probably is.
I wouldn't go to that appointment and at least not alone. Make sure your parents hear about this and follow their guidance. You never know who you might be meeting. Do not sign anything either without a lawyer's advice.
I know what you need to do is back away from this and go through the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) or ACTRA in Canada for a list of legitimate agents for acting, background talent (extras) and singer/songwriters. That way, if you're any good you'll work with the right people.
Agents and record labels aren't posting on the web to represent people or Myspace or anywhere else. It's just not how they go about it. They may send scouts to clubs but they always are people you can investigate. They don't even list a contact's name anywhere on this site. Beware and look elsewhere. Don't go alone or better yet at all.
I know what I'm talking about as I know a casting director, have had agents and done work on films as an extra. What you've said about this web site seems to lead me to know it's not legit. Even if it is don't take a chance.
Put it to you another way if you don't understand the web site and need us to look in to it than it's not a good idea to go to any kind of meeting with the people behind it. Nobody has ever heard of their artists (they don't list any) and the labels themselves are also iffy.
They say they're indie labels and agents which would mean your stuff wouldn't get heard by a wide audience. Just watch they'll try to sell you something or promise the moon if you show up there. They probably do that to anyone sending anything in. They know people are desperate to be discovered. [ solidadvice4teens's advice column | Ask solidadvice4teens A Question ]
