whats the difference between a private college and public college? besides cost.

public colleges are state owned and run. Private colleges can be owned by a specific person (though it's rare) or an organization (like a Catholic or Lutheran school). Private colleges are usually harder to get into, they have higher standards, and in some cases (like the BYUs) they have strict codes of conduct, dress codes, or special graduation requirements. Like BYU requires gospel classes.

There isn't really that much of a difference. Private schools you don't have to pay out of state tuition, just private tuition and they tend to be a little harder to get in. Other than that, they are basically the same.
