This is sort of a female question, but I'm open to any answers:
I'm 16 years old and a female, and right before that time of the month, I get pms really bad. But it's not like I just get irritable, I get angry and depressed. I start crying out of nowhere or getting in fights with anyone in my path. I can never stop eating, so then I feel fat on top of it all. My boyfriend also has to put up with me when I get like this and I always snap at him. He doesn't understand what it's like and I wish he could. Every time I say that he's like "YA WELL YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE A GUY" and that just throws me over the edge.. but that's besides the point..
So anyway, I started reading up on PMDD, which is like PMS only the severity of the symptoms is increased. I think I may have this, but I haven't been to a doctor or anything to be diagnoised. I just can't stand feeling like this anymore, it's so bad.
So my questions for you are:
*Have you heard of PMDD or know much about it?
*Do you have any suggestions as far as treating the symptoms?
any answers are appreciated :)
thanks much

It IS genetic, I think, so I got it from my mom. I dont have it NEARLY as bad as she did, thank the good lord! She lived back in the days when tv had knobs and three channels and they used irons to straighten their hair. Well, whenever she got cramps, shed take the iron and put it on her stomach they were so bad. She was the middle child of five; two older sisters adn two younger brothers. Yikes!
They all wanted her to get a historectamine, thingy...mabob....thing.
Anyway. I dont have the physical symptoms like she does. I almost never cramp up. My appetite doesnt change much.
HOWEVER; my pmdd was mistaken for depression. It seems like an easy mistake. Its helpful to sorta stalk the tom*TimeOfMonth*. Haaha, I just think that sounds funny. WE HATE TOM!!!
Anywho. PMDD is actually pretty common. You DEFINITELY want to see a doctor. My mom took me to a psychiatrist who diagnosed me.
Depending on your severity and the rest of you, they could put you on; prozac or paxil [i forgot which], i think MAYBE nortriptaline, YAZ, any other type of birth control, but Im on Zoloft. Also, a lot of medicines like that, especially birth control, give you a little 'umph' in that area, I thinkk? Hah. Thats what my mom says.
Apologies for the length but Im here for ya. Being a girl does kinda suck, but sooon enough itll pay off...I hope....
haaha take care "]
oh and for reallly bad days, have a spanight. my mom went out and bought me magazines, bubblebath, makeup, and everything--like the works.
and she walked up to the register guy,he looked like 20, and said "move it! ive got a fourteen PMDDing. you dont wanna mess with me!!" and we went into farmfresh looking for a certain type of pads but they didnt have em, and the security guy thought we were shoplifting! we were already out into the parkinglot and he got suspicious so my mom yelled "DONT WORRY! BUT YOURE ALL OUT OF TAMPONS!!" ohh gosh, i was mortified
solidadvice4teens answered Thursday May 29 2008, 10:11 pm: You should talk to your mother about what you've read and how bad the PMS is. Ask her to make you an appointment to see a gynecologist to determine if you have PMDD and how to treat it or your PMS properly so it isn't destroying your life every month.
They're the only ones who can tell you if you have it or any other disorder causing regular PMS to be magnified x20. If it's fouling up your life and you're having trouble functioning and are hypersensitive you need to see if there's anything that can be done to bring it in to check.
Talk to your mother and tell her what other people are saying about it to you and that you learned what PMDD is versus PMS and you'd like to see a gynecologist for help with it. They're the only ones who can help you with a diagnosis, reproductive health, periods, birth control. [ solidadvice4teens's advice column | Ask solidadvice4teens A Question ]
