whenever i push the applicator up to get the tampon in, it hurts. not in my vagina, but it's like a sucking-in feeling right below my stomach. but it's just flat out uncomfortable.. is this normal?

its probably just because you are uptight and not comfortable so the muscles are tightening...just relax

This is probably the tensing of the muscles within your vaginal system. Try to relax, and be confident. Being nervous, can tense these muscles even more, making it even harder to insert the tampon.
