I got a deep cut from glass on my thigh, its been bleeding for about, 4 hours. It doesn't look like it needs stictches to me, but it also looks pretty deep.
Do I have to get stitches? What will happen if I don't?

If it's actively bleeding, elevate the area above your heart. Check the cut after 10 minutes: If you are still bleeding or see that the wound is deep or jagged, you'll probably need to get sewn up. Head to the ER—waiting only increases your risk for infection and scarring."
My advice.. get checked out.
1. You've been bleeding for 4 hours
2. It's a deep cut
If it doesn't need stitches, they'll clean it properly and put on a dressing. If it does need stitches, it's not a problem, plus it'll reduce future scarring.
GilbertMar answered Saturday May 17 2008, 5:06 am: Anything that does not stop bleeding in five minutes of pressure needs stitches. Best case if you don't get stitches, it stops bleeding it scabs over but doesn't heal right and you have a nasty looking scar. Worst case, you bleed to death in your sleep. Please, be smart, go to the hospital, let them stich you up. [ GilbertMar's advice column | Ask GilbertMar A Question ]
