psychiatrist and depression!? ive been seeing a psychologist now for a few weeks becuase of my depression. next week, im going to see a psychiatrist and she or he will determine if my depression is bad enough for medication. i was just wondering, how do they determine if your depression is bad enough for medicine? like, will the psychiatrist ask me questions, or draw blood, or what? thanks!

They're not going to draw blood or anything like that. Most likely, the psychiatrist will just talk to you, ask you questions about why you might be having these symptoms, etc. It will basically be like a consultation so that he can decide what medication might help you out. Psychological problems are harder to diagnose than physical problems because the symptoms can be the result of many different things, so he'll probably just need to talk to you for a while to get an idea of what you're going through. ]
Never. Depression is psychological, not physical. My best bet is that theyll just ask you a few simple questions, thats all! Ive never been to one that did anything different. ]
There's a machine that can scan your brain to determine if you have depression or not, but I don't know if they'll use it. Since it's going to be at a psychiatrist, I doubt it.
Your psychiatrist will ask you a bunch of questions and how long you have had the symptoms and try and see if there may be other causes for these symptoms.
