laughing gas

Question Posted Thursday May 1 2008, 1:07 pm

I'm getting my wisdom teeth removed tomorow, and the procedure starts off with some laughing gas. And I'm absolutely terrified that I will say something really embarrassing or like pee my pants from laughing too much (which has happened before without the laughing gas.)

How exactly do you feel on laughing gas? All I know is that you feel relaxed, warm, and giggly. Anything else?

Thanks all for answering. My laughing gas experience was pretty brief, and nothing special. I just had trouble concentrating and felt slightly relaxed, and then they just knocked me out. Its day two now, and I'm in enormous pain. The prescription pain killers (oxycodone) aren't helping the pain whatsoever, even though I'm taking them as directed. Any ideas on how to reduce the pain? My eyes are watering really bad because it hurts so much. Thank you!.

If your painkillers aren't working, have your parents call your doctor and ask for something stronger. Your doc can call in a prescription. In the meantime, try ice packs against your jaw. What's the dosage? Is it 5.5/550? You can actually take two, just make sure not to take MORE than two. If you're like me and you metabolize medicines ridiculously fast, you definitely need a stronger dose.
What they prescribed me initially didn't work either - I feel your pain. Not currently, but last summer, it hurt like...yeah, a lot. Lol.
I hope you feel better!

It doesn't literally make you laugh. Otherwise, they wouldn't be able to work in your mouth. It just mellows you out. It's not a hysterical laughter type of thing- you just feel like relaxing and you won't care what they're doing to your mouth. Chances are, you won't even think about laughing. It'll just make you really sleepy and you'll feel like you're floating on a cloud or something.

There is no need to worry. I promise. I LOVE laughing gas. You probably won't even feel like talking. You'll just want to relax. When I'm asked questions it takes me a while to even respond when I am on the gas because I am so mellowed out.
