No, I really doubt that they're related, especially since in Japanese mythology spiritual powers are normally passed down through the females of the family. That would mean then that Rin would have to a priestes (sp?). It'd be more likey that she was related to Kikiyo...that is if she wasn't dead.
Also, as for Sesshomaru (I think that's how you spell it), he may claim that but pretty much that hole family has a weak spot for naive females I think. Anyways, it's there way of trying to make him a bit more compassionite so that he'll eventually be able to relate to his brother.
