when do they take place in the series?

Well...they kinda don't. Most anime movies don't actually fit properly into the time line of the series, they're just like little side stories. But if you insisted on trying to place them then it'd be something like movie 1 would take place before Tetsiga (sp?) was broken, movie 2 after it was broken, movie 3 would be some time around when Naraku was reborn (a bit before it I'd assume), and I have yet to see movie 4 so I couldn't tell ya.
