college question

Question Posted Saturday April 19 2008, 12:12 am

ok, so 16/f
I moved before i started high school (so i started high school in a new place) and moved again and went to a new high school junior year.

My GPA went down to a 3.2 from a 3.5 because of us moving and selling the house during final week. I'm in junior year currently and not in any AP/IB classes. (moving makes it really hard to get into high classes). Next year i will be taking 3 IB classes and doing an Internship.

Do you think if I get a good ACT and SAT score i that get into a good college. (UNiversity of Washington for example). What did you do when getting into college. Any helpful hints?

Thanks a bunch

Of course grades and a good ACT and SAT score are important, but there are other things colleges look for in applicants as well.

They like their applicants to be involved in the community. You know, like volunteering and whatnot. Your internship will look GREAT on your application, but try to do some volunteer work for free. Ask your teachers for any opportunites in the area.

It's also good to be regularly involved in things going on at school. Leadership skills from a club or something look awesome to people who read your applications.

Basically, the college you apply to will think "Sure, this kid has awesome grades, but so do our other applicants. What makes her so special?" And that's how you need to stand out. Don't make it seem like your ENTIRE LIFE is all about homework and high classes. Get invovled and they will be very impressed.

:)
Best of luck to you! Please keep me posted!
